About the Center Activities

During these vocabulary activities, students match prefixes or suffixes to their meaning through familiar games such as Bingo, Dominoes, and sorts. There are ten center activities for prefixes and five center activities for suffixes that focus on recalling the meaning of common affixes. These activities focus solely on the meaning of related prefixes and suffixes. Preview the center activities to make sure they are right for your class.

These center activities are beneficial to all types of learners from ELL, and special education students to academically gifted students. Students who struggle with vocabulary will be introduced to common prefixes and suffixes, while more advanced students explore the connections of affixes within their meanings. The center activities can be used in a whole group setting, within small guided groups, or in literacy centers.

Common Core Standards

The center activities are aligned with CCSS Language Standards L.2.4, and L.3.4, but it can be used with younger or older students. Preview the center activities to make sure it is right for your class.
