Secrets For Making Beautiful Bulletin Boards

  • Choose one pattern as your main border.
  •  Pick two coordinating colors from the main pattern border to give your board a cohesive look.
  • Combine scalloped and straight borders to layered the borders.
  •  Use scalloped borders to frame the inside or outside of the bulletin board. I like to use a scalloped border on the inside of the bulletin board, even if I only use two borders.
  •  Straight borders look good between scalloped borders because they are wide and have eye-catching patterns.
  • When overlapping borders, stapling them beforehand is easier than doing it on the bulletin board.
  • Adding a top piece such as paper fans, garland, or pom-poms gives your bulletin board that extra pop!
  • Look at stores like Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree, or Michael’s for top pieces. You can also visit the party sections of Stores, where you will find some fabulous top pieces.
  • Use themed borders for different seasons or holidays to keep your bulletin board fresh and engaging throughout the year.
  • Consider adding a solid background paper that contrasts nicely with them to make your borders stand out even more.
  • Use push pins or thumbtacks to temporarily hold your borders before stapling to ensure they are straight and evenly spaced.
  •  For a three-dimensional effect, slightly overlap or fold the edges of your borders.
  • Keep extra border strips handy for quick touch-ups or to replace worn sections throughout the school year.

Bulletin Board Ideas for the Classroom

I’m using my favorite rainbow-themed borders as my main pattern for my classroom decor and decided to go with pink as the coordinating color. Then, I paired it with a black background to make the borders stand out. I love this combination to welcome my students on the first day of school

Throughout the year, I changed the bulletin board title to match our activities for the month. In the picture below, for the Black History Month project, I am using matching letters to complement the borders’ colors.
